Received a call on Saturday. Mobilized five film crews to film on Tuesday in five different locations. Edited on Wednesday. Delivered on Thursday AM. Aired Thursday night in the season opener for the NFL. Slept on Friday and Saturday.
What I learned: When you are working with presidents or former presidents, you are filming. You are not shooting.
This was a three spot web package with Betty White. She was a national treasure.
What I learned: Betty White was really good at improv.
Line produce a music video for Paul McCartney?! I also got to AD this music video. Almost switched careers as I was drunk on the power of being an AD. Directed by T.G. Herrington and filmed with all real people in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Things I learned: You can cast anyone from social media. If you work on a music video, you better love the song. You will have it in your head for the rest of your days. Night shoots are brutal once you are older than 22.
Walgreens wanted to bring the very popular “Red Nose Day” idea from the UK to the US.
What I learned: So many things. So many. The word whimsical means different things to everyone. I could fill a book with what I learned on this one. And for that reason alone, I love it.
SmileDirectClub is on a mission to build a brand. I got to be part of that mission for 4 years and build a world class production team from scratch. And I FINALLY got to make a sonic mnemonic. Dreams can come true.
What I learned: Listening and not speaking is one of the most confident things you can do as a leader. Trying to license footage from the internet all by yourself will save you money but you will lose your mind. Filming during a pandemic is really hard.
This TV spot is old but it was the first big TV spot I produced. It was for AT&T’s direct response business. The client had zero notes on the rough cut and ran it as a brand spot.
What I learned:
Never surprise your client with an idea involving a horse during the pre pro. They will not be excited and the horse will NOT be used.
Documentaries are my passion. I got to work with directors T.G. Herrington and Danny Bones to help bring this film to life at the SXSW World Premier. I worked to continue the buzz at Sundance.
What I learned: I can organize a second line parade down 6th street in Austin and not get arrested.
We filmed an entire year of content in one production. I also got to edit a few spots which was a great feeling.
What I learned: You can find every season in New Zealand within a single week making it the perfect location to film an entire year of content.
This was made to announce Kohler’s newest shower head. I still have this song in my head.
What I learned: 3D animation is a complex world and I love it.
Gerard de Thame showcases the beauty that is Wisconsin. We used the budget wisely and did many days of “run and gun”. Good times were had by all. We also filmed in a hospital setting. Those are always tough.
What I learned: Aaron Mercer can license any song and he can name that tune in 2 notes. Cheese curds are delicious.
The American Institute of Architects account allowed me to get back to my documentary roots. Interviewing people, meeting and learning about communities, run and gun documentary work. I’m smiling while typing this. Memories that last a lifetime, every time.
What I learned: I miss documentaries and need to produce content with real people often.
